Harrisburg, PA, June 19, 2023– Over 30 school bus drivers from across Pennsylvania will be converging on State College to compete in the 2023 Pennsylvania School Bus Drivers Safety Competition. The event, being held at the Mount Nittany Middle School in State College on Friday, June 23 and Saturday, June 24, 2023.
This is a special year for the safety competition as it returns after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic. Drivers compete locally to earn a spot in the state competition.
Drivers arrive in State College on Friday evening for an orientation which is followed by the written exam portion of the competition. On Saturday morning, the drivers return to the middle school for the skills competition. The drivers are tested in a number of skill areas including physical and verbal bus inspection; diminishing clearance; simulated bus stop; railroad crossings; backing up; and curb line parking.
“We are excited to be celebrating the Safety Competition’s return this year,” said Dallas Krapf, Chair of the School Bus Safety Competition, “The success we have achieved with this event is due to the support we have received over the past 44 years from school bus contractors, school districts, equipment providers and our other industry partners. The volunteers who give up their time to be here along with the financial support we receive help make this all possible.”
