SPECIAL LOGO UNVEILED FOR 40TH ANNUAL PENNSYLVANIA SCHOOL BUS DRIVER SAFETY COMPETITION

Harrisburg, PA, March 28, 2016 – The Pennsylvania School Bus Association has unveiled a special commemorate logo for the 40th anniversary of the Pennsylvania School Bus Driver Safety Competition.

In 1976, the competition premiered as the Pennsylvania School Bus Road-e-o. In 1994 the name was changed to the Pennsylvania School Bus Driver Safety Competition. Over that span of time, thousands of drivers have competed in this annual competition.

The 40th Annual School Bus Driver Safety Competition will be held on Friday, June 24 and Saturday, June 25 at the Mount Nittany Middle School in State College. On Friday evening, participating drivers will be provided with an orientation and then take a written examination. On Saturday morning, the drivers return to the middle school and compete in the skills portion of the competition where drivers are tested in a number of areas including physical and verbal bus inspection; curb line parking; height judgement; simulated bus stop; and railroad crossings.

“We are ready to welcome the best of Pennsylvania’s School Bus Drivers to State College for our 40th competition,” said Dallas L. Krapf, Vice Chairman of Krapf Bus Companies and Coordinator for the Safety Competition, “We look forward to watching these professionals put their knowledge and skills to the test. It is a true recognition and celebration of these everyday heroes, who drive our children to school every day in communities across the state.”

During the spring, regional competitions are held across the state to determine which drivers will attend the state competition.  The top two drivers in the conventional and transit categories qualify for the International School Bus Driver Safety Competition scheduled for July 17 in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The Pennsylvania School Bus Association is a group of over 350 school bus contractors and industry partners from across Pennsylvania who have joined together to be a strong voice for school bus safety and the school bus contracting industry.  If you would like more information, please contact Michael Berk, Executive Director at 717-975-1951, ext. 500 or email at mberk@paschoolbus.org.
